Make-Up Workshop at CT with Gia Mills

So Last night we had the fabulous Gia Mills at Ellis Street for an intimate make-up workshop.

The Aim – Get a group of girls (and Ben) together who want to know a bit more about make up styles and professional tips and generally have a bit of fun.

This idea came about because the CT office is, dare I say it, a bit more scruffy/ tomboy / nana chic than airbrushed Kim Kardashian esq. When I went out for dinner with my girlfriends a couple of weeks ago and tried to do a smokey eye – I looked like I had fast forwarded 10 hours, 4 bottles of wine down after a  punch up at the local. Not good. We needed help. So – SOS Gia Mills. Gia has done a huge amount of tutorials and is not only a fantastic make-up artist but a great talker and brilliant with people. It had to be her…and so it began. We thought there must be tons of women out there who want to experiment a bit more with their make-up but just have no idea what to do….and so we brought you our make-up masterclass.

We started off with “Smokey eyes” – wonderfully modelled by Katie Mills ( our studio manager and fellow blogger)…

Here are the general rules of thumb for a smokey eye:

    1. Know your eye shape – have a look at the below diagram as it details eye shapes and where you should put your make up to enhance them

    2. To save time for us busy ladies, start by applying a half moon of black eyeliner pencil on your lower lid and blend with blending brush.

    3. Do a marker under your brow where you want your shadow to finish – do this with your eyes open.

    4. Apply and dark shadow – not black as its too harsh, over the liner and up to your marker. Blend. A lot.

    5. Make sure you have a gap between your brow and the dark shadow – if you have over egged it, get out a cotton bud and wipe away the excess.

    6. Liquid liner along the eyelashes (top only)

    7. Mascara

    8. If you want it under your eyes (apparently it makes your eyes look smaller not bigger) just use a bit on the end of a cotton bud.

    9. Put a highlighter under the brow and either side of your nose if your eyes are close together.

Our second tutorial was on contouring – for which my cheeks became the canvas…

    1. Use a matt bronzer or similar

    2. Draw an imaginary line from your lip to your ear and then cut it off at the outside of your eye. This is your contour section.

    3. Apply the bronzer with a big brush to this area and blend in.

    4. Get a shine powder or similar (I’m not sure of the technical word) and brush above the bronzer – blend.

Thirdly – a deadly red lip – how to make it stay on longer…

    1. So the secret to staying on longer is to cover your whole lips with liner first and then apply your make up.

Gia’s favourite new red lippy is from Rimmel. She said it stays on forever and it was so shiny and a beautiful colour.

    Go forth beautiful ladies!

    Its HALLOWEEN!!!

I HEART HALLOWEEN BIG TIME! I love fancy dress and this year the CT team is actually off to an event on mass – let the outfit competition commence!

I have been a member of “The Sisterhood” for years – its a group of sporty girls who do a load of bonkers events for Charity – namely the Royal Marsden. A couple of years ago Ben and I completed a 7 day adventure across Costa Rica – self navigated mountain biking and hiking whilst sleeping rough in the jungle (it was one of the best things we’ve ever done). Anyway. Tonight is their Halloween Ball and again its all for charity.

So, the CT team and a few other designers, including Hayley Menzies (our vintage fur in store scarf friend) are putting on a fashion show. Of course its going to be spooky and we have created some lace masks for our models to get them in the mood! I think our AW13 CT collection is perfect for Halloween – considering many have skull prints, it couldn’t be more fitting.

    lace mask

We also have Camilla Hewitt our long time make up extraordinaire and Gia Mills of the Sisterhood (who is also doing a make up work shop at CT on Monday – email info@charlottetaylorltd.com for details) – both helping out so its set to be a fab night.

I on the other had am going to rock my Voodoo James Bond inspired look in my Morphsuit skelton body suit, and a bowler hat and make up inspired by Coco Rocha – pictures to follow tomo!

    Its only Kat Maconie!

SO last week was pretty exciting but its been a pretty good start to this week as well – we now have Kat Maconie in store.

I met Kat back in the Isle of Wight years ago – we were introduced by a mutual friend just as I was setting up the business and we have kept in touch ever since.

I love Kats shoes – theyre elegant and quirky at the same time and theyre not to pricey either!

    Kat Maconie shoes aw13

We’ve used Kats shoes in our lookbooks quite a few times now (take a look here) so it was an easy decision when thinking of who to approach to represent shoes in our store.

    Kat Maconie shoes aw13

As a little treat we asked Kat to answer a few questions as an intro of her brand to the CT world. Im sure youll love her as much as we do! xxx

Tell us a little bit about Kat Maconie and how you started etc to where you are now?

I launched the brand in 2009 and started with a small range of ballerinas, in the years that followed the ranges have expanded considerably, signature gold hard wear details, block heels and strong prints can now be seen on the likes of Keira Knightley and Jessie J and in magazines such as Vogue and Elle to name a few. We are currently sold in over 18 countries as well as the leading department stores in the UK such as Selfridges and Harvey Nichols.

What would you say is your unique selling point?

Contemporary shoe design at a great price point with a strong identifiable look.

Whats your connection with CT and why have you decided to be stocked in their new store?

I meet Charlotte for a cup of Tea on the Isle of Wight a few months before she launched her brand and we have remained in contact since! we are extremely excited to be selling KM in their beautiful store, we really feel that our simple versatile styles compliment  her contemporary feminine silhouettes and we both share a sense of British lead design and an element of fun.

How do you get your ideas for new designs and are you trend driven?

We get our ideas from 100s of places, anywhere from hardware found in B&Q to jewellary found in flee markets in Las Vegas to prints inspired by Brazilian landscapes.

I’ve just seen that you have re-launched your website which looks great! Do you have any other exciting plans for the future?

We do! we are on faze 1 of the website launch and an interactive blog called Katwalk launches next week – it will be very regularly updated on trend lead style tips, things we love and much more! We plan on  launching a handbag and accessories line in the near future and to further broaden her Asian and USA distribution networks.

We do a lot of animal prints on our clothes so I always ask people what animal would they like to see in the next CT collection?

The obvious thing would be to say a Cat but the KM team are all loving Zebra at the moment so pre haps a Zebra!

There has been some major goings on at CT HQ this week – and some pretty exciting ones too…

In case you haven’t noticed – we have re-launched our blog! So the idea is that we write to you guys a bit more than we used to and instead of me just talking about my general day to day (which I still will) we are going to break out of that box and talk to you about loads of other stuff too. You’ll be getting this enlightening info from a few key members of our team. Myself, Ben – our MD (and also my big bro), Katie – our amazing assistant who is beyond quirky in a nana, weathers original, mixed with Rod Stewert’s dance moves kind of way and Lissi – our groovy social media legend. Between us all we hope to bring you a mega mix of our favorite things, whether they’re from London town, the Isle of Wight or from the World Wide Web as well as all things CT and from our shop floor (literally).

We have new CT product in – The amazing jersey collection has arrived!

The long awaited range has just hit our shop floor and its virtually running out of the door again. The midi dress, polo neck (which I am coveting as we speak) and t-shirt all come in a range of prints and are on at a lower price point (so you can buy more) – £120, £80 and £70 respective. Take a look at them here – you wont regret it!

     jersey 1

We are now a multi brand boutique! As we have such a great spot and we are currently just offering RTW and scarves etc we thought you guys could do with some jewellery and cashmere and recycled fur scarves to wear with them. We are also planning on getting an amazing shoe designer in next week so watch this space.

On jewellery we have ALEX MONROE

    big earr closealex m 1

On Cashmere and Vintage fur we have HAYLEY MENZIES

     hayley combo

Check out these beautiful bits in our shop from today! We are all trying not to buy them ourselves..

So all in all and epic week. Happy happy CT.

So we are IN – we have been at number 1 Ellis street now for the month of August and I must say it is lovely. With the whole excited chaos of getting the store ready in time for opening, we didn’t take any time to contemplate our achievement and the enormity of the step we were taking into retail. It really is what dreams are made of and I still can’t quite believe it!
Of course its scary – people ask me this all the time. BUT after the success of the pop up shop in the same area, the continual growth of the label over the past few years and our amazing follows; the fear factor is minimal. We have also been lucky enough to work with Cadogan Estates who have not attached a 10 year ball and chain lease to our merry feet. We have flexibility. Excellent.
Whenever I came to London as a northern outsider I was constantly lost and in awe of the place, if a little nervous. However, my biggest memory was going into all these wonderful stores and designers I had heard about, and feeling frankly, unwelcome. Snotty shop staff are still very much an epidemic in London, but this was never to be the case in my fictional CT shop.
As I dreamt as a youngster of my own store, i imagined having cups of tea with the locals and creating a buzzy store where everyone was welcome, even if they were not interested in buying.
So…guess what – this is what is happening now, and will do into the future.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce Hannah – our shop manager – who is lovely, helpful and interested in helping YOU.
However – if at any point you do not feel welcome in CT shop – I expect a personal email, detailing why not.
With this in mind we are hoping to host a few fun monthly, weekly, annual events in store. A tea tasting morning (CTea mornings – i know its genius) – which will be my personal favourite (the tea addiction is as prevalent as ever) and then a proper opening / fashion week party….
We will post all details of future fun times on social media so don’t worry – or if you’re not already (shame on you) signed up to our mailing list then you can do so at the bottom of this post.
I hope to see some of you here and even if you can’t make the events, don’t worry – the store is still a lovely place to hang out and we have covered lots of cushions and seats in our prints too.
We are also adding in some new product as well over the next few months – smaller bits and bobs for presents etc so watch out for those. Exciting times! Cxx

Bye bye pop up - Hello full time shop!

May and June 2013 saw some big changes in the CT camp. Our Pop Up on Sloane
square was a monumental step for the team and the reaction was just epic. We
had launch parties, closing parties, shopping parties and illustration
parties and not to mention all the wonderful people who popped in to show
their support. It is safe to say that when we closed the doors in June our
joyous smiles had turned upside down as we headed back to the sunny heights
of our Shepherds Bush studio, desperately missing the daily interaction
which our customers and vivacious buzz of the store. But wait Charlotte,
lets not be blue because we are only going and getting a PERMANENT store
    from August 5th!!!!

HOLY MOLY MACARONI this is actually true and it is ACTUALLY happening.

What a journey so far and I would just like to thank everyone for your
support to us over the years. Its been an adventure and learning curve and
of course we have had our ups and our downs but I think we have managed to
top the ups with this one.

The shop will give us a creative outlet to display the collection our way
for the first time. We hope to continue to introduce lots of exciting new
products to satisfy your sartorial desires and we promise to have more
parties, more workshops and really lovely staff to welcome you to our home -
maybe even a pot of tea.

I will be back with further details on our plans and we will keep you
updated via all of our social platforms over the coming weeks and months so
    make sure you are watching.

We can’t wait to see you in the CHARLOTTE TAYLOR store in the upcoming
    months TOOT!

    SPRING / SUMMER 2013

    September 2012

Based on a recent trip to India with her mother, Charlotte has taken stimuli from all aspects of Indian life and culture – a feast for your eyes…

A rich, colourful, vibrant and diverse collection, with the exciting introduction of swimwear. Bring on the beach next year!

The CT team was lucky enough to be asked to participate with Anthropologie at this year’s Port Eliot Festival in Cornwall.

Our mission – to create a craft based printing experience for festivalgoers. We welcomed them in to our world of marbling. So marble we did, on over 100 scarves with a lovely, bright, happy outcome….we even had Susie Bubble and Liberty London Girl getting involved…
